Educating and training tomorrows athletes
Often labeled as the first choice in Southern Louisiana Hunter/Jumper facilities. Recommended by professionals both locally and around the country, Willow Oaks Equestrian Center is located just minutes from the Acadiana Mall and opened to the public in 1993. The facility quickly became the premier Hunter/Jumper stable of southern Louisiana, offering top quality care and professional training for both horse and rider. We offer lessons, summer camps and horse shows to keep horse crazy kids and adults happy all year round. Riding lessons are offered to first timers through advanced levels on your horse or on a WOEC lesson horse.
Equestrian athletes don't just happen. It takes an established hunter/jumper training center, top professionals, and quality horses to rise to the challenge. That's where we come in.
At Willow Oaks, we have a team of experienced equestrians who are passionate about horses and the equestrian lifestyle. Our team includes riders, trainers, and horse enthusiasts who are dedicated to providing our customers with the best training possible.
WOEC wants to feed the love of the sport to equestrian enthusiasts in Acadiana , we train our horses and riders to be the champions that they are. With careful attention paid to the strengths and abilities of our horses and riders, we ensure top quality lessons and training starting as soon as students join our program.
Riders are introduced to the basics of riding, including the proper position of the body, how to make the horse go (at the walk and trot) and how to stop and slow down
Riders are guided by the trainer on a long rope, allowing the instructor to maintain control over the horse's speed and direction
Riders confirm the riding position and learn to communicate with the horse. Exercises are given for practicing steering and starting and stopping the horse are introduced and practiced. Control of the horse's pace at the walk, trot and canter is emphasized. Students learn to be independently in control of their horse, building muscle and creating muscle memory is the key
Students learn the jumping position and start to go over small obstacles, such as poles on the ground, small cross-rails and vertices. Correct approach and the use of the arena is emphasized, so when the rider is ready to start jumping higher, he or she understand the basics of getting to and over each jump while maintaining rhythm, balance and control.
For riders with secure positions and control of the horses pace, courses of jumps are negotiated and feedback given. Riders learn how preparatory flat work impacts how a course is ridden. Correct position and control of the horse are emphasized.
Complex courses of large jumps are practiced and mastered.
Competing at a horse shows is a way to put your riding skills to the test. Whether getting ready for your first show or trying to move up to the next division, we can help polish your riding and prepare you to meet the challenge. This is also a great time to watch other riders and learn what it takes to create a winning round. Sportsmanship and teamwork are emphasized.

At Willow Oaks our Summer Horse Camps aim to teach children 5 years old and up about the wonderful world of horses. Through horse-related games and activities, campers learn about the care of horses, there characteristics, breeds, colors and safe handling-both on the ground and while mounted-in a fun filled environment. Children are supervised by trained staff and counselors. Campers will learn horsemanship skills using ponies and horses that are suitable for first time beginners.
Because horses are so fascinating, a horse camp is one of the best sources of growth, self confidence, and fun available to a young person. A good horse camp offers an enjoyable place to get out, play and learn, an opportunity to make new friends, and is a valuable learning experience that will make memories to be remembered and cherished for many years to come.
